I still runthe old 6 volt battery system on my to-20. Does anyone know where I can get a portable battery booster/jump starter that will work for a 6 volt and a 12 volt system?

Dont know about where to purchase a 6v. booster, I have jump started my TO35's (both 6v) several times with a 12 v. battery and cables.
**I must say that I am not sure about your tractor with the gear shift safety start.**
On my 35's, I simply turn key switch to "on", and apply voltage DIRECTLY to starter (NOT THROUGH WIRING HARNESS!!)-remembering the POS. ground, I place neg. clamp on starter battery post & touch POS. clamp to radius rod or some other ground on tractor...she will spark and crank her over very fast. Most likely will fire right up. If she doesn't start after 4 or 5 seconds...remove ground clamp and allow starter to cool off. About the only thing you will harm is the starter if you crank her too long without starting.
Again, one of the TO20 or TO30 guys will know how to do this trick with your model of Fergy.
I actually made a set of battery cables that have actual battery post clamps on one end and the original clamps on the other. This way I can haul the battery and cables around in my small pick-up or carry them to start the ol' 6 volters when they getting moody.
Hope this helps. Mark

Thanks Mark, that is pretty much what I have done in a pinch a few times. I was scared of frying the electrical system, so was wanting the alternative. BTW, I usually have to use the starter switch to initiate the starter after placing the contact on the starter bolt.

I bought a small 10A Schauer brand battery charger ~10 years ago that charges 6V or 12V. Schauer is still in business and makes 6/12V chargers & boosters. You can check them out with a google search. It looks to me that the low end "boosters" are 12V only, you would have to get a big rolling commercial model to get both 6V and 12V boost. But, a small charger can be had pretty reasonable that will charge both 6/12V. My guess is several other folks make a 6/12V charger also. Try TSC or Sears.

Thanks George, I have a charger that does both 6 and 12, I was looking for the booster pack so I can jump start when I forget to charge and don't want to wait.

I would think if you check with most any of the auto parts stores they would have them and also a tractor dealer should have or could get them. Richard

No, they were no help. I went to AutoZone, My local John Deere dealer, and my local Case-Ih dealer. No one had one. I searched on-line, and no one had one where I looked. Can Anyone give me a specific chain of stores that they bought one from?

Industrial distributors W. W. Grainger (www.grainger.com) and McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) showed these in their printed catalogs that I have. They both like to think they are selling to a company, but they will take credit cards and internet orders.
