What's the trick to torquing the crankshaft nut that holds on the front pulley? I was finally able to loosen it for removal by bracing a wrench against the loader frame and goosing the starter (plug wires disconnected). As the crankshaft turned, it loosened the pulley nut. But now I got to go the other way to tighten it -- and check the torque to 130 to 140 pounds per the manual. What am I missing?

You're going to push rope into a cylinder via a spark plug hole, jamming a piston then torque the front crank shaft locking nut?????

Unbelievable..... .....

Dan..... ....this is SOOooo EAZY. Stuff some soft 1/4" rope down enny sparkie hole. As you turn yer crankshaft, the piston will ultimately pump-up against the rope which has filled the combustion chamber. And guess what??? The crankshaft can't turn ennymore and VOLA' instant crankshaft pulley bolt holder. And iff'n you already removed the head, putter BACK-ON, just a couple of bolts to hold it in place. Simple, eh?

It will NOT DAMAGE ennythang and you can torque yer pulley crankshaft nut to specifications. This works for removing or installing..... .Geezze guys. Why make a mountain outta molehill ..... ..respectfully, Dell

Thanks guys for all the ideas. Seems like any one of them would work, but I'm going to start with the rope suggestion and go from there.

Remove the Starter and wedge the Flywheel while you tighten the nut....John

There's a chance you can reach the starter gear through the timing opening. So wedge the flywheel with a sturdy screwdriver to allow tightening the nut.

Else put the transmission in the highest gear and lock the brakes after chocking the fronts of the rear tires. Or jack up one rear wheel and turn it backwards to tighten the nut.
