Hello everybody!

What models were the TE-20s great competitors in the 50s and 60s (Europe & North America) and how do you think little Fergie accounted itself?

The TE-20 Came out in 1947 and it's main N. American Competitor was the Ford 8N, International Harvester's Farmall F-12 and The John Deere's As well as Massey-Hassis's 33 line and the Allis-Chalmers-B.

In Europe There was little competition as the post war devistation left everyone without. Harry Ferguson imported 5000 Forn 2N's into France in 1946 and was poised to bring in another 5000 tractors- This time from his new coventry plant in 1947. However, The French Government in an attempt to generate French Jobs. Banned the importation of Farm Tractors and only 1000 of the TE's were delevered. In a Deal with the French Government Ferguson and Sir John Black negociated a deal where the Ferguson tractor would be built in France. Thus started the French Ferguson built in St. Dennis outside of Paris.

But I digress. In Europe the main competitor would have been the Horse as mechenization came into farming. On the tractor side it would have been the Fordson, and the Massey-Harris Pony.

they sent a further 8000 TE20's & TEA's the second year then tractors were supplied CKD (completely knocked down)from Coventry for assembly in France using some French components (electrics, carb, tyres, tubes, this carried on for a couple more years then they started to build them completely using engines and transmissions supplied from Coventry, only in the last 3/4 years did they manufacture completely and even then it was not absolutely 100%....John
