HERE is an unusual Ferguson tractor for sale in Australia - a TEA20 High Clearance tractor.
Haven't seen one before!

Interesting rear wheels - standard centers with extension spokes - and extended King Pins at the front.

By comparison, HERE is a diesel Ferguson Narrow Tractor owned by Bareco in Australia.

Jeff. The vendor of that TEA20 High Clearance says the Serial Number is TEA403107, making it a mid to late 1954 model.
The high clearance modification must be an accessory kit but I can't find it in my "Ferguson Implements and Accessories" by Farnworth.

That is correct. Narrowing the track caused interference with the mud guard. This is the first time I have seen an extended handel. The other picture I have seen to solve this problem had a sliding handle like a C-clamp.

The extended handle does not look as pretty, but is much more functional than 1/2 turn, slide, 1/2 turn, slide, 1/2 turn.....

Jeff. Terribly interesting. Two questions which may have been answered from the original photo source:

1. What is the yellow "thing" mounted on the front axle? I'm guessing it is either a distance or speed measuring devise?

2. On the vinyard tractor, why the extended handle on the leveling box, right lift arm?

There doesn't seem any records of the numbers of each Fergy model produced. I know in Australia the vast majority are TEA20's, a few TED20's and later TEF20's and all other models are quite rare.

The Yellow thing is a Allman Speedometer. It was attached to the front kingpin and had a runner wheel that ran up aginst the tractor tyre. Much like bicycle speedometers do. You can just see the runner wheel peeking out from behind the speedometer post.

The full description for the tractor picture (previously posted) is:

Ferguson TEE20 Narrow; Year 1951; Serial No. TEE172038; Collection No 64. Description: A narrow fitted with Ferguson low volume sprayer and Allman narrow wheels and Allman speedometer

Irv. Both tractors are standard TE series tractors. The "narrow" Ferguson tractors were TEB20, TEC20, TEE20 or TEJ20, all had Standard engines except the TEB20 which had a Continental Z120 engine. Not sure what the "narrow" Ferguson Tractors were used for. They appear to be a standard Fergy tractor with much short axles, narrower diff housing etc.

The high clearance Ferguson tractors were designed for row crops, peas etc.

There is also the "vinyard" Ferguson tractors, TEK20, TEL20 and TEM20, which I think were fitted with auto style hub caps (to avoid snaring the crops?) but I've never seen one.

There is also the Industrial series Ferguson tractors, TEP20, TER20, TES20, TET20 and TEY20. I vaguely recall seeing a few of those as a kid in the 1950's in Tasmania, used on Council road works and as aircraft tugs.

The genius of old Harry Ferguson never ceases to amaze me! He built a tractor or implement for almost every possible application - as well as his many other inventions including the Ferguson constant four wheel drive system used in most 4WD SUV's built today.

Bob,

Just to clarify a few minute details... The above picture is of a TEE (Narrow - note hubcaps and skinny wheels)

Per Michael Thorne's book, the TE20 in Detail the hubcaps were on the Narrow Fergusons and the Vineyards did not have the hubcaps. Seem backwards but this is how they made them. The Vineyard models had rotated fenders to protect grape vines.

The all the TE models used the same king-pins. The Vineyard and narrow models had modified rear axels/trumpets and the front carriage was also adjusted to the narrower width.

The Narrow tractors used the same wheels, though the rear wheels were narrow.

The Vineyards had smaller diameter wheels to lower the tractor CG. I think 16" (40cm) instead of the 19" (50cm) standard.

Here is a TEL Vinyard. Note not hubcaps, standard width wheels, and rotated fenders. (the leading edge is further down the wheel than normal. I do not know if these were special fenders or there was a bracket that "rotated them toward the front. Looking close at the left fender it looks as if it is a standard skin that is mounted on the aft edge as opposed to the center of the skin.

Here is the same TEL from the other side. the fender mount is clearly seen.

Also note the extended leveling crank on the right lift arm.

Both of these tractors are special modification tractors and not off the line Fergusons.
