I replaced my radiator with a used one. It appears to be an original because it has a "Fergerson" tag. The cap that came on it is about 3" across. Cleaned the rust and it did not show any crome or paint. Would Like to replace with a like cap. The old radiator had a smaller cap. Thanks Gene

What"s important is that the cap maintains the cooling system pressure. Originally that was 3 psi, I believe, and then it was changed to 7 psi. I would not be so concerned about appearances. Function is more important, especially on these crack prone Continental blocks. That higher pressure increases the boilng point of the coolannt to assure better cooling performance under hot ambient, high load conditions.

I assume the old radiator had the neck changed out...that may be why there is a difference in the style, shape, size. My guess...Gene
