TEF Question

Hi Everyone

I have recently inherited a Fergie TEF T20 from my grandfather who was part way through restoring it when he died, and I am desperate to finish the job he started.

The tractor itself is pretty much complete, but when i run the tractor it ticks over as it should, but as soon as any load is put on the engine (either through climbing into 2nd gear or running an implement off the PTO)

The injection pump was stripped and completely rebuilt, however i'm not sure as to how well its been setup on the tractor, but the engine seems to accelerate without throttle adjustment.

So.. if you could offer any advice as to why:

1) The engine dies when put under load

2) The engine revs acclerate without throttle adjustment

3) The best way to fix these problems

It would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for you help in advance

Sorry I missed the last part of your question....
yes it would have some bearing on the loss of power on your engine, it should automatically speed it up when it comes under load, but because it is damaged it can't do that...John

It will more than likely be the diaphragm in the Fuel injection Pump that has a hole in it, the governor adjustment may also require attention. The Diaphragms are available from a number of outlets who specialise in parts for these vintage tractors. If you need the info on how to reset the linkage, email me at:-
fergusontractors@tiscali.co.uk
and I will send it to you, same applies if you want the name of a parts supplier...John

Thanks very much for your response..

Would you say that the govenor acting up would be the cause of the severe loss of powere as well???

Thanks once again

Dan

It sounds to me like your governor is acting up. These tractors use a pneumatic governor that is a pretty complex setup. I would highly recommend that you locate the appropriate service manual and follow the directions to the letter. The governor itself is located on the rear end of the injection pump and uses a leather diaphragm. These often deteriorate and can cause problems. There is also a spring and plunger in the governor that can sieze and cause all sorts of interesting problems. There is a line that runs from the inlet manifold down to the governor, do not run the tractor with this line removed or it will over-rev. Good idea to check it for leaks. There is also an interesting venturi/butterfly valve in the inlet manifold that could require adjustment (I don't know how). I would highly recommend you contact the Ferguson Club in the UK, www.fofh.co.uk . I would also suggest taking a look at Link as they deal with an incredible amount of grey fergie stuff. Good luck, they are a great tractor. tractorsam
