My Fergie's lift either want to go all the way up or all the way down. There is no in between. It is plenty strong and liifts quickly. If I end up needding to pull off the top of the unit above the tranny are there any hints or tips? Thanks, Mac.

Jerry has more or less hit it on the head, you don't say what you are trying to do though, maybe it is a has been said or it could be something else, just depends on what you are trying to do with it, if you tell us we can give you a definite answer...John

I doubt that there is a problem. Don"t go pulling off the lift cover!
I strongly recommend that you get an owners manual to understand how the hydraulics work and how to use them. This machine was designed for plough work and so it works mainly with ground engaging equipment which are either carried up or down.

There should be a neutral point about 2-3/4 inches down from the full up position on the control lever. You should be aware that the hydraulic control DOES NOT have position control,only draft control.

There are several after market devices ao provide position control or there are plans in the archive for you to make your own.
