I have a Davis Loader on my TO35. The bucket is kind of wore out and I have a new piece of cutter bar to weld on it. The hydraulics are smooth as glass and it really goes up in the air. The big wide side braces (for want of a better word) block the engine and make it darn near impossible to work on. I plan to set up an overhead pulley in the shed and use a come-a-long to try and make a one man job out of taking it off. Just wondering if anyone else has ever built one of these and would share their wisdom.

If you are planning on using a come-a-long be very careful or better don't. A come-a-long is designed to pull horizontally NOT VERTICALLY. There are many places that sell an inexpensive ($30-$40) chainfall
and these are usually rated in the 1000-1500 lb. category. Yes, I know I also have used a come-a-long for vertical lifts and thanks to GOD I wasn't injured. Once I bought a cheap chainfall I was very glad I had it then I did a lot more things that I wouldn't tackle with a come-a-long. #1 consideration

We had a 656 IH with Duall loader that we took on and off each spring. We made overhead lift with two pieces of telephone poles buried in the ground far enough apart to drive tractor between. Put a railroad tie across top and an old chain hoist to lift with. Worked good for years. You could do same in a building but make sure your top end is strong enough to hold the loader.
