I have seen posts regarding conversion to newer engines . V8 , V6 , I6 . I have seen posts that recommend the pre 1966 5 bolt bellhousing 221 , 260 , 289 V8's .There has also been mention of the fact that these newer engines don't have the torque that the tractor needs . Have you ever heard of a 5 cycle camshaft . These were used by stock car racers in the early days to get the torque they needed to run on the short dirt tracks . They produced gobs of torque .
Take for instance , a V8 with a 5 cycle camshaft . It would be like a twin 4 . A engine has 2 pistons on Top Dead Center at the same time . One is on exhaust stroke and one is on compression stroke . The 5 cycle cam is ground so that both pistons are on the compression stroke . I imagine that if anyone were interested in trying one of these monsters out , Isky , or Edelbrock would be happy to help out . Next , the car blocks are not meant to be stressed like the tractor block . A set up like the ford funk 6 and v8 conversions would be needed . This involved frame pieces thar run from the trans . to the front axel along side of the motor . Just tossed this information in for what it is worth . I just bought a 1952 TO30 . I have a 5 bolt (they had a problem breaking bellhousings with tham in the 60's ) . My Z129 is a good one . But , If it goes south , I may concider the change . Have a good day

Well I would be very interested in any information on using the 5 bolt 260/289 engine. I have several on hand and have a couple of TO Fergy chassis that I could tinker with. I sure would like to see a TO Ferguson that was converted.

It was mentioned in the archives that the 5 bolt small block pattern was a close match for a conversion . Sure would be a looker with twin chrome stacks .
