I am looking at a Ferguson 3pt rake. It has the pto drive on it, and the two small wheels in the back. Does anyone know where to find teeth for it or does anyone have any if I purchase it? How good did they work?

I bought a short one at auction a few years ago, and it needed new teeth. Believe it or not, the MF dealer had them and they were about a dollar LESS than the other farm suppliers. It seems to me I had to buy new clips too, as the new teeth were different in that area.

I just bought a Ferguson hay rake, year is about 1950's, and it needs new teeth. Do you think a Massey Ferguson dealer would have them or who would? thanks

Most rakes have been used and abused, so pls check that the spider bearings and bushings on the rake arms are reasonably in decent shape, especially if you intend to use it a lot. This goes for all the bearing and bushing elements used elswhere on the rake as well. The rake arms also are typically worn at the attach points to the spider arms with their attachment holes elongated from poor maintenance and adjustment. These can be fixed with a good welder to get round holes. Somewhere on this site someone said you can the bearings at a reasonable cost from a bearing outlet, not from your MF dealer. If you are going to restore it to function and look "nice" then some shortcuts can be taken and will not be seen. Many of the braces have been welded because they would not take the shaking and bouncing in the field and transport to and from in rough fields. Nothing wrong with that but most restorers don't want that look
As far as price goes, it is always(nearly) based on the condition and originality. Most rakes I have seen or advertised in good condition are from 300 to 600 dollars. I bought mine for $100 and was in fair condition but good enough to restore to a good condition. Only the welds void the orginality of my rake, but I left them, when I restored it. Looks really good though.

They"re great rakes, no doubt about it. But it if you have a chance to.

If you DON"T buy it, post the info here so someone else has a chance at it.

I have seen teeth that look like this at Tractor Supply Co., they were not listed for any particular model of rake. Maybe they would work.

Thank you both for the help. What do the rakes usually sell for in used condition? I would like to get a ballpark figure before I try on buying it. Not sure what shape this one is in. It is grey I know. Where is the Wants section in the Ferguson website I cant seem to find it.

If you are in the SW Ohio, N. KY, SE IN area the Ferguson rakes are junk and you shoud stay away from them... BTW where was this rake located? :-)

The Ferguson Rake is a very good rake and one of the best made. They are a very highly sought after item.

Spare parts can be a little tough, but not impossible. If you get this consider joining FENA and putting an ad in the "Wants" section. As in "what I am looking for, any have any?" section. You will be networking with all the Ferguson fans.

I don't know of any direct source for the teeth, but a couple of weeks ago there were some on ebay, seemed to go pretty reasonable. You just have to make sure you get the right type as I've seen some MF teeth for sale, but they won't fit. As for the rake itself, the one I have was bought new by my grandfather and he raked a lot of hay with it. I have limited experience with it, but they seem to be very smooth and roll the hay well. This is the tooth you would want. Hope this helps
