Hi, warmed up engine; Dry 90# Wet a little lower @85# I have no Idea what this means but I tried to do right with throttle wide open & air cleaner disconnected etc. Also Hrs meter reads ready to turn over to 20,000 hrs not 2,000 as I misread it. I fooled around & lowered idle to 800 rpm & oil pressure was @about 19# on a new 'cheap' guage. Interested to hear y'all's commentary. Thanks!

Well for comparison my 35 with the Z134 engine is 140 psi. It's what the manual says it should be.

Your really need to record each cylinder separately, both wet and dry. The difference between cylinders can tell if the head gasket has a leak and the wet to dry numners provid info on ring and valve conditions.

Gennerally speaking, the wet will be higher than the dry.
90 psi ain't nothin to write home about since a rebuilt engine will be about 120-125 psi. 80-85 psi is about the lower limit of acceptability.
What rpm was the 19 ps oil pressure recorded at? Should be above 15 psi @ 400 rpm on an engine at operating temperature.

All cyl were recorded separately. All were 90# compression dry warm engine. rechecked after squirting some oil in & appeared to be 85# on each cyl. I dont understand that. I guess the hr meter Just turned over 2000 hrs as last digit is tenths, my mistake. I could only get idle down to about 600 & felt as though the gov was fighting me is that possble? Thanks

That's amazing! Identical compression on all cylinders, wet and dry.And wet compression lower than dry! I have to say that I've never seen that before. If your numbers are valid I think your engine has a few more hours left in it though I still think the numbers are on the low side. Just what did you use to measure the compression? It sounds like you prepped the engine correctly.

I used the same guage that I used to check the compression on my rebuilt chevy 350 engine last winter, a gauge my Dad gave me. I guess to keep from being bothered, calling him for help all the time. Now I have you guys for that! hehe. Anyway I dont do this type of technical engine troubleshooting enough to be proficient, I realize that, so it might be a good Idea to duplicate the test just to compare results. I may not have put enough oil in all I can think of. I dont understand why the wet cyl would show a lower reading but they were all very consistant as far as psi & I was pleased with that aspect. Perhaps when a convenient time presents itself I should hire a valve job done. Thanks a bunch

Don't do a valve job for the heck of it. You have consistent pressures, albiet low, but there's no sign that you have bad valves, unless they are all bad and that's highly unlikely. You need to put in a couple of ounces of oil in each cylinder when you do the wet check.

Karman, were the readings similar across all the cylinders? If so, these sound pretty healthy to me.

Sorry about confusion. All cyl were the same essntially no significant difference. 90 lb dry & about 85# wet if that is possible. I am not really scared about the motor being a bit worn out as I will only be doing light job now & then anyway probably never wear it out. All my equipt. was worn out before I got it anyway nothing new there. I'm so easy on my machines, too easy. But I could rebuild it in the future if it came to that it is worth it. Thanks!
