I'm tring to correct things on the TO20 that I bought resently, if I can get the starter fixed properly I'll be ready to try and start it again. Last night I was looking at the way the wires were run and it didn't seem right. The wire that was at the 1 on the cap didn't go to the #1 plug. If I move it to #1 should the rest of them follow in the firing order going clockwise around the cap, counterclockwise or how. The man I bought it from wasn't the best at doing things the proper way, when I had it running after I had just got it, it seemed like it was hard to get to start up.

Thanks for any help.

The firing order is 1-3-4-2 and the distributor turns counterclockwise. So the wires should go from the #1 plug then to the #3 plug then to the #4 plug and finally to the #2 plug as you move counter clockwise around the distributor cap. Usually the #1 plug wire is at the 10 o'clock position on the cap

"when I had it running after I had just got it"

If it was running I'd bet the plug leads are correctly connected.
