Clutch pedal

PART ONE: The clutch pedal on my "new" TO30 was stiff and when I applied extra pressure, something broke loose. The pedal hit the floorboard and does not come back up. The shaft turns when you lift the pedal by hand. The tractor is in neutral and gears grind when trying to shift into any gear. I'm thinking the throwout bearing fingers have broken or slipped out of place. Any ideas on what the problem is? PART TWO: What is a "ballpark" (within $100.-$200.)estimate on breaking the tractor down just to get to the clutch/throw-out bearing?

Mine just did the same thing, i now have it split , it wasn,t that big a job and i didn,t need but a handful of basic tools. On mine everything was shot inside, but the final straw came when the release bearing let go, what happened is one of the forks bent and the spring slipped out and dropped in the bottom of the tranny pan.The pedal dropped and the same results as yours. If your going to fix it yourself the main thing i would tell you is make sure you have some good blocking and jacks.

The TO30 clutch release bearing is available from this site for US$17.32. Be aware you may require more than just the bearing.

If you Google "Holland-Brand UK" (or use the link below), they have an excellent web site summary of the labour hours required to undertake almost any repair task on a TE20, including splitting the tractor etc. Your TO30 won't be much different, although from experience, if you are going to do the job yourself you need to factor in the "Lack of Tools" syndrome, "Many Rusty Bolts" syndrome and the "Hang it, I'll Do It Later" syndrome.

If you ask my realistic estimate of the time I would take to change a clutch release bearing, I'd say two weekends and approximately four six-packs of beer!!!
