Hello, The generator on my 51' TO20 started squeeling and then stop charging. I have purchased a rebuild kit that includes brushes and bearings.Upon inspection, I noticed that the original cloth like insulation that covers the field coil windings is falling apart. I'm thinking that friction tape would be a suitable repair but am unsure. Any advice on a better method would be appreciated.

Thanks,Josh

Simply spray the windings with electrical insulating varnish.

Josh,
Where did you get the rebuild kit? I think I need one too.
Thanks,
John

John, I found the kit on Ebay. It consists of 3 brushes one bearing and one brass bushing. Good luck. Josh

Josh,
Thanks for the info. I decided I need to do a little more checking before concluding that my charging problem is the generator. I put a multi meter on it and got zero voltage, but I'm not sure if that's how to test it. I'm going to check all of the wiring and connections to make sure everything is making good contact first.
Thanks again,
John
