My zenith carb does not say zenith 24, just zenith. I have three adjustments. One knurled knob bottem right. One smaller adjuster above that with a spring. And on the top left I believe an idle adjuster. Can anyone please give me the settings. Tractor runs, but rough and hesitates when I throttle up.

If it has the "knurled" knob on the main jet adjuster it is the "min-max" type carb and two turns open on that adjuster will give max power and no matter how much you open it after that it doesn't do anything, for light load running close this adjuster by 1/4 turn but remember to open it again when you go on heavy work or you will burn the valves. If when you set it to 2 turns open it still appears to run rich, check the actual jet in the carb (under the adjuster)isn't loose or slack. The adjustment should be done with a HOT engine, to check the adjustment open the throttle quickly, it shouldn't hesitate, just open straight up. The slow running jet, right above the main jet should be one turn open and you can try adjusting this until the engine runs evenly at idle. The other adjuster on the left of the carb (rear of the tractor) is the throttle idle speed, just set it to run at 450rpm on idle. Try washing out the Air Cleaner, take it off and soak it in a bucket of fuel overnight, allow to drain make sure it is clean. use clean engine oil in the oil pan. Check the hoses on the air intake that they are not breaking up inside and restricting the air flow.

The one you discribe as haveing a spring on is the low speed idle adjustment.Forget the specs and screw in and out until you should notice a too lean in and Too rich when coming out.Adjust your throttle stop screw also to a nice slow speed. Finally adjust the bottom the same way to where you get a feel of too lean and too rich the other way. This high speed adjustment should be done at about 2/3 governored working speed but with no load on engine. This is adjusting the high speed circuit.Pinch off the high speed adjustment to right where it wants to lose RPMs. CENTAUR
