We recently bought a F 40 Hi ('57) in original condition. It appears to be a relatively low hour tractor (for 50 years old), runs well, and not too difficult to restore.

The front and rear wheels both appear to be red. We have never heard of red wheels on a F 40. Is this a posible color for these wheels? We think the cream color tin, silver castings and red wheels would really look good. The cream paint is in good conditon but the wheels are pretty rusty, but they sure look like they were red.

My son restored a F 40 (not Hi) 30+ years ago when in High School, and we both really liked that tractor - it was a pleasure to drive and work with. Always been sorry it was sold. That one we painted red and silver - MF colors. This one we want to use the right colors!

Would appreciate your comments.

I've still got dads F-40. It's mostly rust colored now, but where the picture shows flint grey metallic, some were dark green metallic. Cream colored sheet metal and red grill are the same.

The F-40/MH50/MF50/MF150 series is held in high regard around my place.

My daddy bought one new (H40) when I was a young pup. The spin-out rims were cream as well as the sheet metal. Sure would like to have it back now.

According to a photo I'm looking at right now the front wheels and the centers of rear wheels are the same color as the hood. The rear rims appear to be silver.

Ron, I believe you have readjusted my memory on the rear rims. Was vertical exhaust standard or optional? My daddy changed his to vertical because he got tired of getting hotfoot. Thanks for the picture. Cosmo

My photo shows a horizontal exhaust. I have never seen any vertical exhaust systems, but there was not that many F40's built. It certainly is a collector tractor. I think ther was approximately 9500 built in two years.
