My TO30 like others I read about on this forum won"t start without the gas at a certain level in the tank. I pushed a lot of snow yesterday and had no troubles, but wondered if when the gas get"s down does the tractor sputter & die?

Is there a good float type or other gas guage solution out there?

Gentlemen, Would that dip stick be a "paint stick"? I love that fender tool box! I would'nt mind drilling into the tank so much, but I like to keep things original. I will be changing the temperature gauge soon. Also the oil pressure.

Paint sticks serve lots of purposes don't they. Before I put an electric guage on mine I had my old "fuel guage" stuck to the top of the tank with a bit of velcro. Cosmo

I added a fuel gauge to my 35. From J.C. Whitney about $20. You'll need a 2" hole saw for the sending unit and for the dash gauge. If you do it, find out where the baffle is before you cut the tank or you'll have a place for an extra sending unit. Don't ask. It's not that hard if I can do it. You'll be happy to have it. Cosmo. . . that seems a bit risky. Cutting a hole in the gas tank.

Emptied, washed out, and blow dried with an air hose blowing in it as you do your thing, cuts down the risk to zero. Too lean-no explosion: Too rich-no explosion. That's why electric gasoline pumps on modern vehicles can be immersed in gasoline safely-although quite expensively. On my job I occasionally weld tapping saddles on live pressurized natural gas lines. All gas, no oxygen, no KABOOM. Regards, Cosmo

What exactly was the substance used for the "wash out"? Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks

John, I just used a little dish detergent and a couple of quarts of water. Sloshed it around until I gave out. Douched it as good as I could with a water hose. Then I let it drain and air dry overnight. You won't get the gasoline odor out. When I hole-sawed it I had an air hose stuck in the filler neck blowing a little. That may be a little over-kill, but what the hey. Regards, Cosmo

krout...ya...if you're pointed downhill and your tank is low, you can actually "run it out of gas". i've had to "coast" my tractor to level ground a couple times to get it started again. there is a "reserve" in your tank. i think the correct way to use it is to turn your gas shut-off valve all the way open, and if you run out of gas, you turn it in til it's only about two turns out and it will give you "back to the barn" fuel. i might have this backwards...i can't remember. it seems to me like my to-20 is one way and my to-35 is the opposite. maybe someone will edjamucate us both on which way is which.

The fuel tap should be two turns open for normal running and full open for the reserve. That is if it is the correct fuel tap and the only way to make sure about that is to remove the tap from the tank and check how many inlets the tap has in the tank, it should have two, one pipe will be longer than the other.

Mike, Hello, I took that bowl off mine many years ago for a leaking problem (to35) but i'm almost sure clear out was back to the barn fuel.
It worked very well and i wish i had it back. I can't see well anymore so my fuel gauge is a clean stick. LOL Regards-ed

ed...yup...got a home made graduated wood dip stick in my fender tool box on my 35.

i'm sure my 35 is all the way out for "back to the barn"...but it seems to me my to-20 is just the oppiosite. gonna double chck that since i got my 20 running and ready to get dolled up and used.
