I'm running my T0 35 frequently pushing snow. Most wiring on the tractor has been replaced. What remains is solid. recent new big cables all the way to the starter. Lately I've noticed with the headlights on, the lights will be bright for a spell, then dim. They change back and forth. The light witing is all recent, all soldered with ground wires back to the battery. I know the wiring is solid. The battery is about 18 months old, its been very cold (below 0) and I'm having to put the charger on for an hour or so to get it to turn over fast enough to start each time. Do you suppose my voltage regulator is getting ready to go out? The voltage regulator is painted the same as the tractor which is Mayflower or dinosaur Yellow so its been there a loooong time. I would guess a genny would not cut in and out but then I'm guessing. I have all new parts on the bench to convert the genny to 12 volt including new 12 volt coil and regulator. I wont spend much time trying to fix the 6 volt as I prefer 12. (just my preference) and not worried about conversion. Any thougths would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like the regulator. Cold weather can make them stick. I've had to thump my regulator a couple time this past week myself because my amp gauge drops down to -8 when I first start-er up. After a couple taps, the amp gauge jumps back to normal ~ +2.

It sure sounds like the regulator. I'm right in the middle of changing mine, too. I wanted to keep it original, but got tired of the poor (slow) starting. 12V. really wakes them up. :^)

I've heard all the guys that insist on being 6 volt and I appreciate thier position but 12 volt is so much more forgiving. My working 8n is 12 volt and my parage 2n is 6v. This 35 is about to become 12 volt. I have the new fields for the genny just wish I had a way to test it after they are in.

John,

Dont fight it. Go ahead and do the change over to 12 volt. I changed my TO-30 to 12 volt some years ago. I dont have the tractor anymore tho.

Good Luck and keep warm steveormary
