yet another TO-30 question for the newby .

Under the seat on the differential housing and next to the 3 point raise / lower control lever are 2 adjustments ? One seems to turn and the other seems to move in and out . What do they do ? I'm thinking it has to do with the lift control but I played with them and it didnt seem to make any difference .

What are they and what is the adjustment procedure ?

I do have an owners manual and shop manual on the way , but not here yet .

Thanks , Bob

I had a TO 30 years ago and it had nothing on like that and that is not what is shown in books as the control for a front end loader

I think Jeff -oh might be on to something with his explanation . Makes sense the way this thing is set up .

I posted 2 pictures of the conrols over in Galleries / Help Identify

There is a casting # on the top cover: HF TO-501B

There is 2 threaded ports , one on either side of the casting. Its starting to make more sense now what the contols are if they are for a hydraulic control , and I'm starting to think thats what its for .

I got a pickup load of old parts with the tractor , one item is a hydraulic cylinder ram that bolts to the front of the tractor and pivots up and down . This part is definately homemade but very heavy duty . There is a roll cage affair with winch and lift arm that swings out on the tractor . I 'll lay out the parts and take a picture later . Its an ugly bugger though , be forwarned . Also there is a pump that either bolts on the front of the crankshaft or on the PTO . It'll be fun figuring out what all this stuff is.

The only history I got from previous owner was that he had bought it from an old guy down in Kingman AZ 10 years ago who had built it , but has long since passed away . Could be it was built for use in construction or mining industry around here. It was a dedicated piece of equipment and built for some specific task . I was going to pull the cage off , but first I can use it to put up a metal garage building that will be going up shortly . This old thing has been working hard for over 50 year , why stop now ?

Sure wish I knew the history of this rig . Someone put a lot of effort into building it . Everybody who sees it asks me " what the h--l is that thing ? I cant answer that , but its sure handy around the place here. My plan is to work the snot out of it getting my place fixed up this summer and then doing a mechanical refurb and paint job on her , then she can lead an easier life.

Interesting, if in fact its a valve that bypasses the 3 point. I would definately like to see how its done and use this info on my to20. I currently have to chain lift the arms down to use external cylinders.

Thaks for the photo...

I saw some of these in the past
It seems to be an hydraulic diverter control
to permit the use of external hydraulic device
when the external port is used the 3 point lift does not operate and vice/versa.

Forgot to mention

The push/pull lever is probably to switch
3point/external single action cylinder.

The momentary spring return lever is probably to permit oil return.. push to release oil pressure
on external single action cylinder.

My 2¢ again

Hi guys . No trick questions I assure you LOL . My new to me 'Ol fergie has been working for a living today moving dirt , I just got in and read the responses to my question .

Ok this is a factory setup , not a bogus thing cobbled by a previous owner . Its in the top cover casting right under the seat , right front side . 2 adjustments , one is about 2" long , the other is about 1 " long . There is a tapered pipe plug between the two . The longer one , when pushed all the way down the 3 point lift doesnt work . The shorter one is spring loaded and pops right up if pushed in . Cant see any effect on anything .

Someone suggested maybe to an auxilary cylinder ... that could be since there is a pipe plug . As for a positioner , I have no idea what that is . I was thinking maybe it allows the 3 point to 'float' , say like if you are pulling a blade .

I can take a picture tomorrow and figure how to post it on here . Thats probably the best way to describe it.

A Ferguson 3 pt. lockout add-on? in reply to Bob in AZ , 02-06-2007 18:47:54
Here's a guess. I can find it now, but I remember reading in Michael Thorne's new book "Ferguson TE-20 in Detail" About a Factory installed 3-point lock out. It was mainly used for industrial TE tractors and would be installed if a framer used heavy rear implements like the Fork Lift, Hammer-mill, and Bucking Rake. You would raise the lift to the transport position then engage the lock-out and the pressure would be taken off the hydraulic system.

perhaps there was a special need and the dealer got one in just for this tractor?

Just a guess. As he said one lever dis-engages the 3-point.

Jeff

It will be interesting to see your picture, from the description it sounds very much like the valve on a Ford Dexta, so just what it is we will have to see. This makes the grey cells work for a living....lol.

bob...just the fact that when you place it in one position, the lift stops working, makes me think it's some kind of isolator valve for remote hydraulics. more than likely when you put the control in the position that makes the lifts stop working, the hydraulic oil is being diverted from the lifts to supply a remote hookup of some kind. if you can post the pic we might be able to tell you how it hooks up and works, but i'd be afraid to make a guess at it without seeing it.

Does your top cover under the seat look anything like this one? The levers you are talking about would be in place of the transfer cap.. Just a guess.

I know, but the way he described the levers as on the front right under the seat I was wondering if maybe he had something other than a TO30 top cover. Just a shot in the dark.

ya joe...at this point i think everyone on the forum is curious about what it might be. i even grabbed my flashlight and walked out to the pole barn to inspect my to-20 to see if i could even imagine something like what bob is describing...a picture would be great. all i can think of is what someone else said...some kind of remote hydraulic set-up or something.

we need a picture bob!

Is it possible that he is referring to a hydraulic valve connected for an aux. cylinder of some sort. I am also confused and curious.
I thought maybe it was installed under the seat where you access the hydraulics and it wrapped along the side? Just a guess. I'm not a 20 or 30 guy, but by brother has a ford 800 with a loader and I think there is a 3 point lock that pushes in as well as a push in button that diverts the flow from going into loader lines and keeps in tractor instead. I don't know if they made such a critter for the 30s.

Only thing I can think of is the Australian made Fergy Positioner. It provides position control that the Ferguson doesn't have as OEM.

Good guess, Jerry. However, I have a Fergie Positioner on a tractor and it doesn"t match his description very well. Maybe it"s a trick question to see if we are all full of it or not.
