Just wanted to confirm.. on the 3 wire alternator that i've been told is a stock Napa part for a 76-88 Chevy pickup.. Is that still internally regulated? I just need to run one wire to +.. the next to ground and the other to a diode/idiot light? And change the pulley to one that fits my belt.. right?

Thanks

I used a two terminal oil pressure switch to "excite" the alternator when my 1946 Farmall "A" was converted to 12V. It has a mag with a "kill" switch, not an igniton switch. This is just information passed on for anyone that may be converting a tractor with a mag.

The next one I plan to convert is my neighbor's AC "B" with a mag and will used the same setup.

The 2-terminal oil pressure switch in the "excite" circuit works GREAT, especially on tractors with mags.

1988 is getting a bit too new, as it would have a "CS-series" alternator.

Asking for one for a 1975 to 1985 is a safe range.

Here's how to connect it up (again):

As you know, you can substitute a #194 lamp for the diode.

Thanks again bob.. i was looking to confirm mostly that the 3 wire one didnt need an external regulator since it was essentially different then the 1 wire..

I should be good now..

O yea.. and i hate to sound like a moron.. but when you do the 3 wire alt.. you dont have to gut the thing and replace all those parts inside right? Thats just to convert the 1 wire to 3?

When i get the 3 wire.. i just wire it as shown and swap pulleys right?

Thanks

If you get the factory version of the 10SI, such as for the Chevy pickup application, it will be ready to go as a 3-wire unit.

GM didn't make any of this series as a "one-wire" alternator.

That is strictly a (goofy) aftermarket setup.
