Anyone know how to tighten up the nuts on a lift pump on the 23C? The nut closest to the rear is near impossible due to it's proximity to the casting of the pump and the pump's location near the transmission. The nuts appear to be rounded off as the previous owner tried (unsuccessfully) to stop an oil leak.

I am taking it you mean the FUEL lift/feed pump not the Hydraulic lift Pump? If you use the correct size wrench it is no problem, just a bit awkward. The oil leak he was trying to cure was most likely not coming from where the pump mounts onto the block but through the drain hole below the diaphragm in the pump itself. To cure it you need to find out just what is damaged inside, there is a fabric washer inside that curls up with age and allows oil to leak past, find something similar and make one and replace it.
We had a lot of trouble with those early on when the tractors were new. You may be able to get a Service pack for it from an auto store, usually they are AC pumps which are same as Delco in US.
