Tank is in good shape except the gas inside has been there 15 years and is changing into shelac!
I want to keep the tank but clean. What will dissolve this residue?

Will I have to replace the line exiting the tank, fuel pump, sediment bowl, and carb???

Thanks!

Castrol Super Clean in a gallon jug from Wally World will clean most any tank. Follow directions.

If you are in a area were they sell E-85 gas that works very well too. I found out from experiance that gasohol- (10 % ethenol), will loosen up the junk in the tank and send it to the carb. Don't forget that there is a second filter in the brass elbow that is threaded into the carb. it will catch everything the sidiment bowl misses. good luck

Drain out all the gas you can and then put in a few gallons of lacquer thinner. It has ketone, acetone, and toluene in it. Strong stuff. Let it soak in for a day or so, shake it up ocassionally, dump it and if needed, do it again until clean.
Pull off the sediment bowl and clean it in the same solvent, and install a new filter screen.
Soak the carb in the same solvent, but it might need taking apart. Fuel line could be blown out with compressed air. What tractor do you have that has a fuel pump? I don't know of any gas Fergies with one.
