Hello group, I read through the archive on most question about the independent brakes on the to-30"s but I am still confused, were the independent brake to be used by foot control, mine are always in the down, bottomed out position unless I depress the main brake then they raise up. Are they miss-adjusted? What i read so far is to engage them you must pull up on a left or right brake with your hand to make them work. I haven"t tried this yet. Or are they meant for foot control?

They are meant for foot control but as you will find it is not always possible to use the left one with your foot as it will be controlling the clutch pedal, so you lift it up by hand, it will work both ways. But from what you are saying it is possible that your brake pedals are seized at the back end of the independent brake pedal, to check them, lift each independent brake pedal in turn and if the brake rod that runs alongside the transmission case bends out of shape then the joint is seized and needs to be freed off, you cannot set up the brakes until the brake pedals are free. If the independent brake pedals are very low, slacken the pedal pinch bolts and remove the pedals, check if the key is still in the shaft, this should hold the pedal at its correct position, if it isn't there you have your answer. If it is there and they are still low then it is the pedal inboard joint that is seized.

They should work by depressing with your foot or by pulling with your hand. Your choice.

So, If my brake levers are bottom out then they are out of adjustment or slipped on the shaft?

They shouldn't slip as there should be a key to hold them in place.
