Both of the rear fenders on my TO35 have these brackets mounted on them. What would they have supported/held originally?

After the first mow this year I'm going to give the old girl a bit of a facelift, though a real restoration will still be due in a couple of years, so I'm trying to sort out the pieces...trying to decide about new fenders or banging out/welding up these. I'd keep the brackets, in any case.

The left fender on my machine has the integral toolbox with the oval opening in the fender, I have no idea if that's right for a TO35. It's totally rotted out and that fender is in pretty tough condition.

Great picture. The brackets are light brackets. The light switch is contained in the ignition switch. You turn the key one position and the ignition is engaged. Turn it two stops and the lights come on. I have a third stop on my switch but I am still trying to figure out what the heck that does. New fenders can be bought on the web for about $50 each but I could not find one with the tool box hole in the left fender. The brackets are not easy to find, so you may want to hold onto them for a while. Good luck.

Bob, I found a new ignition switch description which read "off, ignition, ignition with lights, and lights only".

Thanks, gentlemen. Each fender has two brackets on it, just as you see on this one. And it's the fender that's not pictured that has the toolbox in it.

Amazing.. as carefully as I THOUGHT that I had looked at the picture, I certainly missed the back bracket... maybe this tractor had both the rear lights (per mike's comments) AND head lights on the fenders.. Jim

Which begs my rather stupid question: where is the light switch on a TO-35. I assume it might be the "extra" positions on the ignition switch?

Mikes comments apply... but if I am reading you picture correctly (looking at tire lugs, seat, etc.), it would appear to be of the right side fender (if not ignore my comments) and the light bracket shown is in the front beside the seat. This is backwards from a standard installation. The standard installation has the brackets on the back part of the fender. It may be that the fenders have been swapped from side to side or the light brackets have been added on the front of the fender. I have seen headlights mounted on front mounted fender brackets (particularly on loader tractors) but this would not be standard. Jim

The right fender would not have a tool box in it. Only the left side.

The brackets are for lights. The right side would have a work light the same size as a head light but with a switch. The left side would have a tail light with a red lens. I recently bought a new pair of fender skins for my MF-35. When I bought the tractor it didn't have the tool box in the left fender. New tool boxes are available for them too so I measured the opening for the tool box on a friends TO-35 and I cut a hole in one of the new fender skins and installed the new tool box. It looks like it came from the factory that way.
Good luck with the restore. It's very rewarding to fix these old Fergusons up to make them look as original as possible.
