Hope someone can give me some info about my Massey 35. 3 times in the past year my gearshift has jammed and the only way to unjam it is to take off the top cover of the transmission. This involves about 3 hours of unbolting of the steering system and fuel lines and etc. Is there anyone out there that could give me the reason why it's jamming and is there an easier way to unjam it without removing the top cover? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jerry, you don't have to do all that, just unscrew the oil fill cap to the left of the gearshift and slide the unengaged shifter fork back to the nuetral position with a screwdriver. Takes about five minutes. A little wear and not enough lubrication slung up on the shifter rails is the cause of it. (Makes the sliding member slide too far). Shift it a little slower. Some say to weld up the ball on the bottom end of the shifter to fit the notches in the shifter forks better to help eliminate it. L8R----Fred OH

Some times you can manipulate the shift rail throught the fill plug opening next to the shift lever. Put the Hi-Lo lever in neutral to relive any pressure on the gears and use a long rod or screwdriver to move the gears.

This used to happen frequently on a 1958/9 MF 35
four cylinder version I used at the time.its down to worn selectors but can be relieved by inserting log rod or screwdriver through oil filler hole by gearstick
