Removed complete steering assembly off of 1952 TO30 parts tractor, flipped it upside down on to the steering wheel and noted that it had a flat bottom plate. This plate differs from the plate on the burnt TO30 that i'm rebuilding, which has a bulged out bottom cover that fits down into the clutch housing a little. Does this help to date the burnt one earlier or later than 1952? Did this feature add tighter steering by providing more clearance for the steering quadrants?Has anyone noticed this? Thanx, Haze

Thats gotta be what happened, thanks Jerry. The thing was melted down to the bottom of the steering neck.

According to the view in the Parts Manual, there is no bulge in the Lower Housing Plate. My guess is that when your tractor burned, the air inside got heated up, and the resulting increase in pressure bulged out the Lower Housing Plate.
