Well hello all! I had a strange happening with my TO20 that I would like to have explained! Yesterday I took all plugs out and cleaned because they get oil fouled every couple hours of use (rings I'm sure) and got wires crossed! To make a long story short; tractor wouldnt run correctly after checking firing order several times,it ran like there was a wire out of firing order: never got it corrected till I was about to quit for the second day at this; then for some reason decided I would rotate the wiring position in the distributor one position counter clockwise and "bingo" it ran great, so I got to finished my bushogging the pasture??? I've alway put #1 wire pointing at #1 plug! but not in this case??? Thanks for any explantion! Gene in LA

This happens when a previous owner installs the distributor such that the gear engages with the cam in the wrong position. In the case of a small error it can be corrected by just rotating the distributor, and in the case of a larger error it can be corrected the way yours was. Once you know about it it doesn't make any difference but it can keep you guessing...
Glad you figured it out,
Jim
