Why doesnt my ammeter move when tractor is on or is it suppose to stay in middle? How do I test my generator to know if it is charging correctly?

Willy, your genny output is controlled by the regulator grounding the F (field) terminal on the genny. You can test your genny full output temporarily by running a jumper wire from the F terminal on the genny, to ground, which I assume you have an original 6V pos. ground system. When you do that, your AMP gauge should ramp up to ~10-12 Amps with the engine running at working speed .

If your amp gauge don't move, better check your volts/amps with a multimeter to see if the gauge is no good, or your genny output is poor.

If you have a good charged battery the amp meter usually hovers around 0 to +2 anyway.

The #1 cause of poor charging sys. performance is corroded connections. Make sure everything is clean and shiny. An often overlooked connection is the regulator ground lug, which is one of the mounting bolts to the frame. That ground lug is how the regulator controls genny output. If it is corroded... poor genny performance.
