Hey guys 6 volt batteries are not hard to find just go to your nearest SAMS club they sell champaion batteries, I think the last one was only 26.00. Also try your auto parts store they will be able to order. If your tractor is a hard starter go for a 8 volt. My old ferguson dealer told me the 1955 to35 was 6 volt changed at 1956 he said possible some late late 55's were 12 volt but he didn't remember any.

Thanks for all the replies to my question regarding the correct 6 V battery for my TO-35.

I am in a bit of a quandry however. After checking out everything on my tractor I find quite a hodgepodge.

12 V batter w/Neg ground
6 V generator
6 V starter
6 V lights but none hooked up
6 V regulator
??? Coil
Odd looking ceramic piece hose clamped to coil with with coil wire attached to one end and wire running to starter button attached to the other.

My delema: I do what to hook up the lights (I could just buy 12 V bulbs, I quess).

Going back to original would be fine, If I didn't have starting problems with lower voltage.

I do want to preserve the tachometer drive off of the 6 V generator.

But would also like generator to charge the battery.

????

I have the same problem as Lon Jackson does. I don't know if my T0-35 runs off a 6-volt or a 12-volt system. When I started to tear this tractor apart I noticed that everything on it was 6-volt except the battery. The coil I'm not sure what voltage it is because I couldn't read the writing on it. I've checked the starter, generator & voltage regulator to make sure it worked and the guy that checked it out stated that everything was in working order. Can someone give me any suggestions on how I can find out what year my tractor is? I bought a resistor and kept the 12 volt battery on the tractor by suggestion from a farmer in town. I placed the resistor between the coil and the ignition. I would sure appreciate any suggestions from anyone that can help me?
Thanks
Tim

The early TO-35's had 6 Volt systems. If they take the same Group 1 battery as the TO-30 they are available at NAPA, TSC, Bomgaars, and I would imagine most any other farm merchandise store.

TO-35s began with 6V systems. They switched to 12V at SN 161250, except for 300 Specials (163533-163832) that had 6V systems.

Are you sure your TO35 uses a 6 volt battery? My TO 20 uses a 6 volt but my 1955 TO35 uses a 12 volt. The previous owner added a 12 volt alternator but the tractor originally had a 12 volt generator and starter. I don't mean to confuse you but I assumed all 55's came with 12 v.

You aren't going to find many companies that make such a battery these days. I get mine from Interstate Batteries. They can fix you up just fine.
