looking for advice... have a knocking \ rattling sound coming from the area of front cover....seems to be louder at idle but harder to hear at high rpm do to roar of fan...front pully is tight,water pump has no play, good oil pressure, noise seems to be the same cold or hot... thanks jim

what normal goes bad with the goveners?govenor balls get warn or the piece they ride in? to cause noise?

Take fan belt off & listen again. Use a stick to your ear to locate noise precisely. If it's from timing cover, could be governor about to come apart. Maybe nut loose on camshaft.

Same problem here,except it did fly apart,so how far do I have to tear down to pull govenor out,looks like a big project.

You have to take the timing cover off. It's not a big job but you have to remove the raditor and then pull the crankshaft pulley off. I can't remember whether you have to take the front axle off but even that is not the difficult
