Hi there all folks.

Once upon a time Harry Ferguson made a tire inflation kit to be used on the number 1 cyl. on a TEA / TED or similar, and with a hose, and adapter to fit the wheel valves.

Did they really put air/fuel into the tire ?

If someone knows, please give it to me with a teaspoon, I need this explained in small portions and detailed to understand how it works.

Bill in Norway.

We had one of those when I was growing up that fit the F- Farmalls. While it was pathetacellly slow, it sure beat the heck out of the alternative--a hand opereated tire pump. And guess who always got to operate the hand pump when it had to be used.

Here is a sketch of how it could work. Note that the air going into the tyre and the engine gasses do not mix because of the diaphram.

Not real effecient. If it ran on only a compression and power strok it would be better.

Hi Bill, When I was on the service van we had one of those and we used it to blow up rear tyres when we changed them, it did take quite a while but you changed one tyre then while you changed the other the first one was blowing up. I don't think that any fuel vapour got into the tyre because it operated a diapgragm due to the piston in the engine going up and down, I just can remember now though.

Doubt mine"s a Ferguson, but I"ve still got one -keep it in my van. Screws into any 18 or 14 mm plug hole. Has a disc valve in its body, allowing air to be drawn into cylinder through valve before being expelled on the compression stroke. Have to say I found it pretty pathetic - guess it"d take an hour to inflate a tractor tyre (at least mine would) and I can"t see that it doesn"t allow some mixture to join the air - the vehicle"s inlet valve has a much larger area than the disc valve, so the engine must draw some breath through its induction system.
