I have recently purchased a 1952 TO-30.
It needed a Exaust manifold, after instalation, antifreeze showed up in oil, and part of a bearing
in bottom of pan. What engine can I install in
this tractor. I found a Z134 and its $200.00
cheaper than the Z129. Or will the little parts
like Oil pan, gov, timing cover, starter all be diff.
z129 is 2059. and z134 is 1899.Or if anyone has
better ideas let me know..

Apparently they do not interchange because of block differences. Here is a link to an archived YT message that refers to this

[I do remember reading a post that said that someone had put the industrial MF Z134 engine into their TO30, but I haven't been able to find that post again. I'll keep looking... The Z129 can be overhauled with the oversized piston kits to be the same displacement as a 134 engine and as I understand it, and shares most of the same internal parts as the Z134.]

"Big Dean" (Mostly on the MH MF Forum but sometimes posts here) would have better information. His link is below.

I'm not sure that the Z134 will fit on a TO-30 which has the Z129 engine. How bad is the existing engine? Is it just a head gasket leak ? What bearing is in the pan? Is the block cracked? If the engine is plum wore out, than getting a remanufactured one probably makes the most sense if you need to have the tractor running quickly. I would think you want the Z129 however because it will be a direct swap. My guess is that trying to put the higher horsepower Z134 will have you swapping carburetors, generator brackets, goverenor arm,etc and will turn out to be a bigger bunch of work. Shop around and see if you can find a cheaper Z129. It should be closer to $1800 bucks. Sounds like whoever gave you the quote might have mixed things up 'cuz I would think the Z129 would be cheaper.

Just dropped it off to a guy that will tear it down
and find the problem. He seems to think rebuilding
is the way depending on the block. He seems to think
its just head gasket leak, I got my fingers crossed...

The z134 engine won't bolt up to a TO30. Even if the block if cracked in the z129, it can be fixed.I'm in the process of rebuilding a Z134 with cracked block. I will report on the method of fixing the block after I have it all together and running and well tested. Good Luck,

Mike M.
