The interest in the street address of the Ferguson plant got me thinking. Here is what I found. I asked John Polacsek of the Detroit historical society if they had any information on HF. Here is his reply. The 1946 Directory of Michigan Manufacturers lists the Harry Ferguson company at 15020 Woodward Avenue, Detroit 3, Michigan It also noted that it was established in 1939. (this is probally HF"s location during the 9N days-Jeff) The 1953 Directory lists an address as P.O. Box 322 Roosevelt Park Annex, Detroit 32. If there was a local reference to the site we do not have anything on it nor a file on the company." -end of Polacsek info--- I found this address from some government files. "12601 Southfield Rd. Detroit MICHIGAN 48232" This was for MF in 1979.
Searching this address on Mapquest.com it shows a large empty (industrial lot?) at the corners of I-96 and 39. More information, I have states, "In Jan 1948 an option was taken on 72 acres of land on Southfield Road, Detroit, in the name of "Mr. Harlan"- a curious procedure prompted by the mysterious and sudden failure of another land transaction a few weeks before, which management felt was related to the dispute with Ford. ... The factory completion was set for July 31, 1948. ... Harry Ferguson drove the first tractor off the assembly line of the new plant on October 11, 1948. Before the end of the year Harry Ferguson Incorporated was assembling tractors at Detroit at a rate of 100 per day." Attached is a photo of the plant. The train tracks in the picture are potentially the current CSX tracks that run on the north side of I-96.
