How much should I expect to get from a 51 TEA20 with gimpy hydraulics and sticky valves but good rubber, tin, brakes and electricals?

I'm looking at a MF30 that I like.

What are gimpy hydraulics ?
Does the 3PT raise and lower or not? Thanks

The hydraulic lift has worked intermittently for a year or so, and now it doesn't lift at all. Opinion on this site suggests that it is a little push-pin disconnected inside.

The valves stick when the engine starts cold. As it warms up they cut in and run fine. In the owner's manual it refers to this and explains how to "lap" the valves to restore compression. The engine is otherwise in excellent condition with very few hours since a complete rebuild at the dealer's. Several years ago my dad paid $4000. for the tractor with a Freeman loader installed.

Neither of these repair projects is something I particularly want to try, so the Fergie is on the block.

I will say, though, that the TEA20 is much nicer at handling a trailer than its replacement, the Massey Harris 30. Backing up is where the Fergie's sophisticated steering geometry becomes apparent. I like being able to leave the Massey in gear when I shut it off, though.

Rod: Got mine 1 1/2 years ago for $1750. A STEAL!! Approx. 100 hrs of use after complete restoration (Cost $3000.), paint, rear tires good/excellent, front tires new, battery new. (Cost $3000.) With transport box, drawbar and 2 sets of swaybars. Restoration was 10 years previous but he only used it to transport a box of firewood to his cottage on weekends when he was there.

That's a beauty. The headlights on mine took a beating from the loader: they're kinda cockeyed and rusty at the back. The tire chains grew extensions and served on my MF35 last winter.

The Fergie drives nicely on a trail, doesn't it?

Afternoon Guys.
When I bought my 19952 TEA-2085 the older gentleman that I bought her from was asking $1500 (Can) It came with an Original Ferguson Manure Loader, already mounted and ready to go. That was over 6 years ago. Do these little tractors hold there value? After I bought her I put all New-- Wires, Plugs, Points, Distributor, Coil, Fuel sediment bowl , Re-built the Starter, Re-built the Alternator, gave her a paint job, ( not professional but looks good ) Sher runs like a top. One would think that after 6 years I could get a bit more than $1500 for her. If I was selling I might start at $2500 am I to high????? ??

The Fergie I am selling has had all of the improvements listed above except paint, which it didn't need. I transfered the loader to my MF35. I cut the asking price because the hoist doesn't work and valves stick until it warms up. I figure that's worth $1000. off the list price, so your figure's not far wrong.

I drove the Massey Harris 30 home today, a relaxed, 3 hour tour up an abandoned railway bed from Smiths Falls to Forfar in the pouring rain. The tractor ran well and my Wetskin rain suit worked even better.

Morning Rod
When an buddy of mine helped me fabricate a front end plow for my Fergy, I drove her down the road to his place, took me over an hour to get there. After we finished the fabrication of the front plow, I too drove her back home down an old rail line. The morning I drove her home, it had snowed the night before and the old trial was just awsome. I wish I could have kept going. ForFar eh???? There is a Cheese factory there. I have been to it many times. I work as a Dairy Inspector for the Federal Government and I have to cover the cheese factory when the other inspector is on holidays or is sick. So I know the area fairly well. Take care Rod and happy trails

I would say around 1200-1500$ for a TEA 20-80, perhaps at best 2000$ CDN for a TEA 20-85.
MF 30 ? MF-25, MF-130 or FE TO-30.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll advertise it for $1500 then. The tires are worth nearly that.

Rod,
I sold one a couple of years ago for $1900, with everything working. Tires were ~ OK, should last a while yet...and it needed a battery, but otherwise it was in fine shape, and I had painted it (but not a professional bodywork type of job -spray cans. Looked OK.)
I think your $1500 sounds right.

Jim

Thanks, Jim. We'll see how it sells. I listed it in EMC, the larger distribution edition stretching all the way to Cornwall.
