We recently found an old Ferguson in an abandoned barn. The SN is 104068(tag mounted behind the steering wheel). All I can read on the engine plate is "Continental". To our surprise it started(after a new battery and some fuel) but the radiator boils over after a short time. I've checked the hoses and find no obstruction. Possibly the water pump? I'd like to take this on as a project but know zip about Fergusons. Any help will be really appreciated.

I assume it does not have a thermostat. You said you checked the hoses, and the thermostat for that tractor normally is in the top hose near the block, but if you didn't check that, you should do so. When running and with radiator cap off if water pump is working the coolant should be moving inside the radiator. If not, that's probably your problem. As Dave said, don't run it hot, as these are great tractors but not very tolerant of overheating.

It looks like a 1952 TO-30. The engine is a Continental Z-129. Check the external cooling fins of the radiator for dirt, grass, grass seed and such. You should be able to see through the fins. Mine was plugged almost solid but caught it before it ever got hot. These engines are known for cracked blocks if they over heat. Dave
