I need to put the Distributer back in the TO30 but I have no idea how. Could someone help me so that the timing is right when I'm done? Thanks very much

It's not very difficult. I don't know whether you have removed the old distributor or not. The first thing you want to do is establish the timing on the #1 cylinder. To do this remove all the spark plugs to make cranking the engine over easy on the battery/starter. There is a hole in the casting on the left hand side of the block below thew starter through which you can see the timing marks on the flywheel. The TO-30 has a Z129 engine which is timed at 6 degrees Before Top Dead Center ( 6o BTDC) at 400 rpm. You'll have to crank the starter till you get the 6o BTDC mark lined up with the notch WITH THE #1 CYLINDER ON THE COMPRESSION STROKE. The way to tell if it's on the compression stoke is to hold your finger over the #1 spark plug hole while tapping the starter and you will feel the compression pressure rise try to push your finger off the hole. (It'll take a helper for you to do this unless you have extremely long arms.) If the old didtributor is still on and it's timed right, the rotor will be pointing at the #1 sparkplug wire. When you get to this point. loosen the bolt that holds the old distributor on and remove the old distributor by pulling it up. Take the new distributor (with the new points set at 0.022"), put the old rotor on it and make it point to the general vicinity of the #1 wire on the distributor cap and push the new distributor down to engage the drive gear on the cam. If you rotate the rotor just a tad clockwise, the rotor shoulds engage the gear and move the rotor back counter clockwise and be near the right position. Tighten down the clamp bolt to just make it a snug enugh to be able to rotate the distributor. Put the rotor and distributor cap back on, noting that the rotor is pointing near the #1 plug wire, and make sure the coil wire is connected to the distributor center connection. Place a paper clip or a bent wire into the #1 spark plug connector and hold this near a good ground. With the key on. rotate the distributor slight in clockwise first, then counter clockwise until you hear the spark snap at the #1 plug wire. If you've have followed these instructions carefully, it will not take much motion to hear the spark snap. AT the point where the sprke snaps you are statically timed. You may have to do this a couple of times to get the right point due to overtravel but be patient and when you get it right, tighten down the clamp bolt and you are statically timed. Put the plugs back in and hook the rest of the plug wires up (firin order is 1-3-4-2) and you should be ready to start it up. Usually you will not have any difference once you start the engine and check the timing with a timing light at 400 rpm, but you should verify this with a timing light. You should also check the advance function by reving the engine and watching the timing mark advance as the engine speed increases. It should advance to 23o at 1500 rpm and 32o at 2000 rpm. Get back if you have any questions.
