Greetings,
One of the bottom lift arms on the tph of my 1954 Tea2o85 broke in two while plowing. Upon closer examination, half of the crack reveals new metal, while the other half seems older, indicating that the crack has been partially there for some time.
Is it possible to weld the arm back together using my Lincoln AC stick welder, and if so how do I go about it, and with what type of rod?
Thanks in advance for any info.
Fabien

Fabien if your ends are still good weld it back together because they are welded together in the first place. You just broke a weld apart. One of my new ones broke because of a bad weld from Tractor Supply. Use any rod from 6013 to 7018 any higher than the 70,000 lb. rod it starts to get brittle. Dave

15 years ago I bent both of my arms on my Super 55 Oliver. I straghtened them out then took a piece of one inch square stock about ten inches long and welded it to the bottom edge. I centered it on the hole in the arm. I haven't an issue with it since. You do need to remember when making something stronger than it was when it was new, may make something else break, and that something else may cost more that the first part does. If it was me, I'd weld it up and add the re-enfrocement.

Why not weld it. If it breaks then you can always buy a new one.

I welded new ends on mine several years ago and they are still hanging in there. I used 7018 rods. Bevel both ends to get 100% penetration and grind each pass with your side grinder. Lots cheaper than a new one and a little bit of job satisfaction (if successful).:)

You can buy a new lower link arm from this site, see the listing below:-

Hydraulic Lift Arm - Lower lift arm, universal, less pin & chain. For tractors: TE20, TO20, TO30 right or left. 32" hole centers. (Part No: 180846M91) $39.14 go to top of page and click on HFerguson parts

These link arms can be welded but you need to have it done properly considering the weight it has to carry, consider having it done by a welding specialist.

I'm not sure about welding it, but I have seen several lift arms on e-bay recently. They were pretty inexpensive, I think less than $50.
I would check there. I usually type in ferguson to-20, and then ferguson to20 you get slightly different results. I think the to's and te's/tea's all used the same lift arms.
