There's a F40 for sale locally that I'm interested in, but I have some TO-20 & 30 knowledge, none w/ the 40.

Any thoughts or recommendations? Experience w/ a 40?

Jeff

Hi jeff. I have a F-40 and I like it. Mine is a 1957. They have the same engine as the TO-35, and a lot of the same features as the 35 Deluxe. Two speed, six forward, two reverse tranny, two stage clutch for PTO versatility, and same lift as 35 with position control and draft control. It's actually same basic tractor as Massey Harris 50. To start it, if stock, the two speed (short) lever must be in neutral. Parts are readily available. Look for rust in the left fender where the tool box is. They are kinda rare, but not an endangered species yet. I took mine to a local show this year and many people said they had grown up with Fergusons, but had never seen a 40. Mine is a great running tractor and in decent shape otherwise, but not really a show tractor, but I took it anyway, and it was a hit.

Phil, I cut my molars on an H-40. A few years ago I had the chance to grab an FE-35. It sure is good to almost go home again.:)
