lots seem to use the Delco single wire alternator for this purpose. For the starter again, most use the 6volt starter as it is, providing the tractor starts ok and the starter isn't being used excessively it will cope and not overheat. Maybe your local auto electrical shop could rewind your starter motor for 12 volts if you really want to do this. I have a wiring diagram for the Delco single wire system and also for a 2 wire system if you need them. Email me at:- fergusontractors at tiscali dot co dot uk and tell me what you need.

I seem to have an issue that is common to the posts I"ve read in here. My TO-20 has been converted over to 12 volt but... there was no ground which I fixed and the ammeter guage wasn"t hooked up which I hooked up. Guage shows voltage from the alternator but the battery won"t charge. I see a few old and spliced wires running from the alternator to the voltage regulator but no way to determine what is correct. I think that either the voltage regulator is bad or it is hooked up wrong. Also, the wire that comes from the alternator gets hot enough to burn a blister on my finger. So, my problem is trying to figure out how to rewire the whole thing correctly so it charges the battery and I keep my finger skin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can send you the wiring diagrams if you tell me what alternator you have, is it a single wire type or a two wire type. You will have to mail me direct at:- fergusontractors at tiscali dot co dot uk so that I will be able to send them to you. Don't forget to mention what tractor it is though.
