I have 2 old TE 20... the 48 TEA 20 and 49 TED 20. If I understand correctly the hydraulic pressure was changed 3 times during the TE production, 270 kg. lift capacity, 365 kg. lift capacity, and 454 kg. lift capacity.
And all was done by increasing the hydraulic pressure from what I find.

First question:

Can I on my old TEA/D 20 tractors just replace the safety valve and get better lifting capacity, or did they do other modifications to the hydraulic system / 3 point linkage to strenghten it ?

Second question:

My cousin TEF 20, has no Kigas pump, no kigas tank, and the thermostart heater plug is not working. I have not found any place they sell the TEF type thermostart heater plug, so will a MF 35 heater plug fit ? And, can he just connect a diesel pipe to such a heater plug and forget about the kigas pump ?

Third question:

How can I find an original 12 volt dynamo for my TEA 20 ? I have a 12 volt battery and 6 volt batteries cost twice as much as a 12 volt battery.

Fourth question:

Is it possible to find new parts for original starters on TEA 20, like the Lucas M418G #25519F ?
And, is it possible to find a 12 volt starter that looks the same ?

(I am running 12 volt on the 6 volt starter, no trouble with that as long as the engine starts good and it is engaged only a little while.)

Fifth question:

If overhauling an 80 mm Standard engine, is it advicable to use the 85mm liners and pistons to get a little more out of the engine ? I also see here in Norway that parts for the 80 mm engine is more expensive and they also have more parts for the 85 mm engine.

1.The hydraulic lifting capacity was only changed once, from 750lbs to 800lbs at the ends of the lower links and this was quite early in production, so all later tractor would have any modifications that are necessary to the basic design BUT they did strengthen the Lift Cylinder a couple of times and the hydraulic Lift cover was strengthened also and again when they moved the safety valve from the Pump to the Top Cover, but the pressure was not changed on either occasions, it still remains at 2000lbs psi. On the later type with the relief valve in the top cover it is possible to slightly boost the pressure but be warned that you can do serious damage with too much extra pressure. Models with the safety valve on the Pump cannot be uprated. So any hydraulic system should have the same safety valve setting now (2000lbs psi)
2.Regarding the thermostart/heater plug for the TEF, well you can still buy the tanks and the pumps, but not the heater plug or the injector for the Ki-gass into the manifold. They now use a thermostart-like heater plug to do that but in conjunction with the original Ki-gass pump. You do need a certain amount of fuel held for use with the thermostart and that is what the small tank was used for on the back of the main tank on the 35 models. I suppose that you could pipe it into the fuel system somehow, as long as there was always fuel present under gravity to the thermostart, otherwise it wont work as intended. The Heater plugs for the TEF was a Lodge 320 but I am told it is N/L/A. and I don't think the thermostart from the 35 is the same fitting, but there is one available that will fit I am told.
3.You can get a 12 volt Dynamo from Sparex through your local tractor dealer the part number is S41157. The batteries you will be buying are car-type batteries and are not suitable for a tractor but there are the correct batteries for tractors still available and they do last a long time.
4.You can get some parts for these starters. Lots of conversions have been done using the 6volt starter on the 12 volt system and they work ok as long as the engine is starting ok and as long as it doesn't overheat. As far as I am aware there is no look-alike 12 volt starter available, this has been asked many times as you can imagine and I for one would be interested to find a suitable unit. Perhaps your local auto-electrician can rewind your present starter to use 12 volts.
5. You can fit 85mm liners/pistons in an 80mm cylinder block, but you will have to get the block bored to accept them, ask your local machine shop they should be able to do this. It may be possible to bore it out to accept the 87mm liners and pistons they used on the 35 type engine too, I know they do it with the 85mm blocks, just don't know if its possible with an 80mm block though.

Hi John,

Graham Holland says he have heard rumors that with a 12 volt control box the 6 volt dynamo will put out 12 volts...

I guess I will try this.

One other says that the field coils will get too hot... that make sense too.

Anyway, the field is not so difficult to rewind for more voltage and less current. More windings and thinner wire.
