Afternoon Everyone
Its been a while since I posted, YES Im still alive. Just back from a week down to the east coast of Canada, Had an awsome time. Once we got back my best buddy in the whole wide world just bought a boat. He has asked my wife and I to join him and his wife on a number of outings. I think he wants me there to uncap the beer, which is fine with me. Anyway onto my question. On my 1952 TEA-2085 I have a New Alternator, Starter, all new plugs and wires. Coil etc. The darn thing wont keep a charge on the battery, which is new as well. I installed an amp meter to indicate to me when she is charging, It seems to be working ok. Does anybody have any ideas what could be the problem? This time of the year she may only run a couple of times a month, Maybe I need to take her for a stroll around the block, any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance ,, Barry

My problems with the Fergie's starting were solved once I started lifting the positive terminal off the post every time I shut the thing off. That and the gas line shutoff make things go more slowly than I'd like, but at least it runs when I want it now.

Once on an after market ampmeter the case of the meter made enough of a ground to draw the battey flat in a week or so.

alternator could have an internal short which draws from the battery even when shut off ,something about the diodes in there ,at least i had the problem on a car one time
good luck Danny

You could have a slight short in your wiring that is pulling your battery down, and there is also such a thing as getting a new battery that is no good. A voltmeter, and disconnecting one of the battery cables, and seeing if you get a reading between the battery and what you disconect will give you some ideas. Another trick somtimes used in antique car and tractor circles is to get a disconnect switch that is turned off when the vehicle is parked for long periods of time. I have had alternators go queer and discharge the battery while setting. Voltmeter should show this if that what it is.
