What does the red dash light mean? I recently had the tractor serviced and now it comes on. Reading this post, Link it seems that the possibly indicates your alternator is not working? TO-20, 12v.

Red dash light on a TO-20...meaning in reply to David Gabler, 06-19-2005 21:01:09
The red light means the system is not charging. This could be for any of a number of reasons, engine running too slow, regulator not working, generator not providing a charge etc.

In your case with 12V, there may be other reasons. If it is now negative ground, I suspect the red light will be on all the time. I guess you'd need an ammeter hooked up properly to see what was going on.

The red light, when wired and working propperly, indicates that the battery is not being charged.
