Advice on buying a To 30

I'm looking at buying a To 30 from a local dealer and need some advice regarding a hairline crack in the steering gear case. It looks like it had already cracked once and welded, but developed a new crack in the same area (not on the weld). Nothing appears to be leaking and the steering works fine. Is this a problem?
The tractor is in otherwise good condition. The rear tires look like new, it starts up and runs fine, it's been converted to 12 volt, and the hydraulics seem strong. The paint is a little faded, but the sheet metal is all there. He's asking $2500, which seems about the going price around here for a tractor this size.
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still thinking about buying it, but I may shop around for another tractor, something a little less obscure. I'm not sure how available parts are for this one. At this point in time, I'm not a collector, I just need a running tractor with a 3pt so I can fix and maintain my driveway and drainage ditches.
One thing has me puzzled a bit -- I've read that the T0-30s were all gray. This one has a red hood and fenders. Any thoughts?
Also, Big Dean, how do I determine if there is stop leak in the radiator? Will it be obvious? Thanks.

Juat FYI, the steering boxes are not available new, and used ones in good condition command a premium price (like maybe $300 more or less). It is a 'weak link' in the parts supply for these tractors. Sometimes they crack when the tractor sits outside and water gets down the steering shaft and freezes. If it isn't leaking, and if it has lube in it, then you might be ok.

Those engines used in the TO30 are famous for the blocks cracking between the cylinders on the bottom end. Check the coolant in the radiator for any sign of stop leak in it.

The crack in the steering box was caused by the previous weld if it is right beside the weld. The cast iron was not prepared properly to prevent cracking. If there is oil in the box and it isn't seeping out the crack, or-if a seep is found you might try JB weld to fill the crack, but be sure to follow instructions! Visit Big Deans website and print out his inspection tips when buying.
