So I got a TO-30 last weekend, been itch'n all week to mess around with it and clean it up before I park it indoors, till it gets fixed.
I spent atleast 2.5 hours pressure washing it and scraping the built up dirt off it. More time I spent cleaning and looking the more I realized - man this tractor about nicer then my JD - to bad the ferg dont run.
After cleaning it I decided maybe its real not that stuck after all cuz its only sat a year or so w/o running..... .
Ended up coasting it downhill in 4th and letting the clutch out.... It turned over :D
Charged the battery for awhile - no dice ended up trying to pull start it with my buddies HD-5 - still no start (no spark) - cleaned the dist cap out ( had bugs or some dirt or something in it)

Then I screwed up big time, laid the rotor on the gas tank and closed the hood - pulled it it again - still no spark hmmmm....

Charged the battery for another 15 min or so and found my missing rotor - opps :)

Threw a 12v battery I had in it - tractor lit right off and smoked for the first 2 min IT RUNS :D Kinda loud but it runs.... Not bad for a $350 tractor right?

I ended up filling it with water and putting the back blade on it and played in the dirt for the next 2 hours or so. Man that thing is fun to use - prolly cuz its about half the size of my jd 50.....

Now im just stuck with a ferguson thats muddy and gets oil in the water.

Matt

Hey... like your ride, I have a to-30 too. I especially liked your front tires. I'm trying to figure out if those are factory rims? I know those arn't the right tires. I have been trying to locate used implement rims, so I can change my front tires to car type tires, so they don't cut into my lawn when I mow.

There is a proper turf tyre for these tractors called a Multi-rib. As it says it has a lot of narrow ribs running right round the tyre, it doesn't cut the turf and you can steer it. Some car tyres can damage fine turf due to the edge on the tread and they don't steer as well as a turf tyre, but it depends on what you want.

Wheels are original far as I know just turned around to widen the stance some. One side has a mud tire and the other is like a car one - lol The mud tire will rub on the arm somewhat during real sharp turns - thats prolly the reason why the wheels were turned around since it was a flat land tractor.

I also have a vid of it sitting there running- anyone know where i coould post it to be watched?

"Gets oil in the water?" I hope I heard you correctly because that sounds like a lot less work than "gets water in the oil." Good luck.

Wter in the oil? in reply to Matt L, 06-06-2005 18:28:57
Well, it also looks the way mine did when I first got it. The water in the oil is probably the result of a cracked block that these are prone to get. The rebuild is not too hard and I had my cracked block bolted, now it is like a new tractor.

Have fun,

Tom

Fun! I see yours has the exact same paint job mine does. Grey over Red over Rust. Gotta love these old tractors.
