Broke my manifold when I went under a pine branch and hit muffler. The manifold is ok but the flange broke off that the muffler connects to. Has anyone bought a manifold from this site? If so was it of good qulity? I bought a tune up kit and wasn't impressed with the points or the plug wires, they were braided copper instead of the old school solid copper -- I'm sure they are fine but I will go to MF and another set of the solid copper wires. Speaking of points what a mess!! I got them in after about 2 hours. I need to switch over to electric ignition next time. My distributor is almost worn out, has anyone bought the new distributor with the electric ignition already installed on it from this site?

I appreciate all the great advice. Any tips on removing and installing the new manifold would be great. For example should I remove the gas tank? Does anyone know the torque specs for the bolts, etc? I need to get that manifold on soon as I am rapidly loosing the ability to hear without a muffler!! I'll keep ya'll posted.

If you don,t want to use the adapter that comes with your new manifold, you can buy a new muffler/engine pipe for a 135 massey and it will bolt right up to the flange. You can get away with a little play in your dist. shaft with the use of a pentronix electronic convertion, it uses a magnetic pickup.

I too had a manifold break at the flange. I got a cast iron female pipe flange, ground down the square sides until it fit inside the manifold and then had it welded in place. I had to grind or file it a little to get the muffler braket to fit but it still works seven years later.

Doesn't really matter about whether the HT cable is solid copper or braided, braided is more flexible and may stand more vibration.

I bought a replacement manifold off this site about 2 years ago. Quality was good, manifold was solid. It bolted right up no problem. However, the manifold casting style is a bit different than the original. Doesn't affect how anything hooks-up or runs, but does look a little different.
The exhaust manifold also had a 3 bolt triangular flange, but they include the conversion flange to hook-up your original equipment tapered exhaust pipe. I cleaned mine up real good to get the machine oil off then painted it with hi-temp. manifold paint before installing.

What did you use to clean it? Degreaser?

If I recall right, there was a heavy oil film all over the manifold. I cleaned it first with kerosene, then cleaned it again with white gas (Coleman lantern fuel), which dries fast and removes the kerosene residue, then rinsed it again with denatured alcohol. Sounds like a lot of work, but actually only took ~30-40 minutes prep. The alcohol dries in a few minutes and it is ready to paint.

Can't answer your question re: manifold but somebody else will. You can get your distributor rebuilt by an outfit in Portland, OR (philbingroup.com) for about $100 plus shipping. they are also a dealer for Pertronix.
