My last post was about the 12v electical system I installed. She now starts and runs like a champ. The only problem now is when I depress the clutch and TRY (emphesis) to put it in gear it wont go. I adjusted the clutch pedal like the other suggestions on this forum, so what do I do now? Please don't tell me it has to come apart!
Thanks
Kevin

Try adjusting the brakes. Not on the rods, on the back of the drum only, I think you had a TO30 if I remember right. In that case, get a medium sized screwdriver and place it in the slot on the back of the drum, push the handle towards the tractor to tighten it (same both sides) then slacken off six clicks, at this point check that both wheels turn easily, if they don't, slacken off the one that is binding a couple more clicks till it turns freely. Should you have problems setting the brakes, try LIFTING each independent pedal in turn, should it bend then the inner joint on the pedal is seized and will need freeing before you try to adjust the brakes. You can also check the brake rods are set by disconnecting the rods, adjust the brakes, then pull each rod in turn forward and adjust the clevis so that the pin will slide in easily.
If you need more info, email me at:-

Sounds like clutch is stuck to flywheel or pressure plate.
Normal way to free a stuck clutch is to start in gear and run with load on whilst holding clutch down in an effort to free it. Unfortunately the safety switch doesn"t allow starting in gear and you won"t get it into gear once engine is running.
What I"d do is probably too dangerous unless you"re experiencd with tractors - I don"t want to risk telling people in case they have an accident.
My advice therefore would be to securely jack rear wheels off ground before starting. At low revs you should get it into gear, where you could then hold down clutch whilst applying brake.

You say you can get it into gear at low revs (albeit with a bit of crunching). I presume you mean you can get it into gear, with clutch depressed, whilst stationary.
If I've understood you correctly there's two possibilities - either your clutch is out of adjustment and the pedal isn't pushing the clutch far enough (which you adjust at the pedal) or there's a problem with the clutch (oil on it, damaged driven plate, u/s pressure plate) in which case you'll have to split it to correct.
Hope this helps.

Gerard, at very low rpm's and with a little grinding I can get it into gear. The brakes must be originals, because they dont work all that well. So what should I do?

I"m having the some problem with my TO-35. Clutch is properly adjusted but gears grind. If I set it to low idle I can get it into gear but even with the clutch depressed it wants to ease forward (or backward if in reverse). The tractor has a 2 stage clutch and I can feel each stage. Thinking I wasn"t able to depress the clutch far enough, I even malasjusted the clutch to zero clearance between the pedal and the stop. No help. Readjusted to correct clearance. Had a similar problelm last year for one day and then it seemed ok. Any ideas, anyone?
