Well folks I'm back with so questions after a long year being gone because of a stroke last august. I started the fergy TO20 today and the hydraulic system lifted the bushhog up finaly, but it was very slow and the rpm was high, went down fine but next time up and always the times after, very slow to lift. Have already drained and replaced fluid with 85/140 oil. An old retired tractor mechanic adviced me to use! Any help sure would be appreciated, and thanks in advance ya'll always have helped. Sorry, but you have the wrong fluid. Flush it good, make sure you get it all, and replace with six gallons of 90 wt. GL-1, which you can get at Tractor Supply, NAPA, and some WalMarts. The 85-140 is GL-5 (at least I have never heard of GL-1 in those weights) and the additives in GL-5 are not good for your pump. Also, it is too heavy, as 90 is the heaviest you should ever need for your lift. The Ford 134 hydraulic fluid will work also, but tends to be a little thin and sometimes leaks past axle seals too easily. However, in your situation it might be a good choice until your lift starts working better. You can get it at Tractor Supply or a New Holland dealer.

Dont use the Ford Oil it will only aggrevate your problem.as you say it is too thin..Use GL1 as Phil says and only that.

NAPA 65-205 is GL1 mineral oil, $29.69/5gal pail, it holds 6 gallons. Be sure you remove all 3 drain plugs when you drain the system first. Have you readjusted the lift response yet? If not, remove any implement, lower the quadrant lever fully, and loosen the 4 bolts holding the quadrant lever housing. Adjust the quadrant back or front ways so the arms just begin to rise with the quadrant lever set 2" from full up. Tighten the 4 bolts, and you're finished.
