My battles with my dad's old Fergie are no secret on this forum. Funny thing happened today when I tried to start my fishing boat. Click. No starter movement. I'd fully charged the battery last night. This is what the Fergie was doing.

Off to the local Mercury outboard dealer, Dave. He gleefully put a load tester on the battery and told me that, even though it was reading over 12v, it was delivering less than six under load. I tossed the battery; the Merc started and ran perfectly with the new one.

Back to the Fergie: I had used the Merc's battery on the tractor over the winter. Maybe the tractor isn't evil, after all. I'll give it a new Delco and see how it goes.

That is exactaly what happend to me a couple of years back. Fergy wouldnt start, had to boost it every time. My wife works of a car dealership and she was telling one of the mechanics. He said get a new battery, I did and problem solved. Im, passing thru Smith Falls on April 29 on my way the kemptville to get some trees. My 1st car did the same thing. $800 (1980's $$) and two new starters later the battery was changed.

1. change system to 12 Volts.
2. Use alternator you can buy from this site.
3. Guess what ? No more starting problems. If you continue to screw around with the gen. 6 volt system your problems will continue..And you can "take that to the bank"
