I'm trying to reassemble the brakes. I can't get the drums back over the shoes. Black spring on top shoe, blue on bottom, red at adjuster end.
Whats the secret? They'll only go on one way. They're not even new shoes. I'm at a loss other than getting out the sledge hammer. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks all for the replies. I was careful to keep the shoes, drums, springs etc. for each side together when I disassembled. The adjuster is compressed, there's no pressure on the rod to pull the shoes apart. I've got a manual and picture which is no help. Just can't get the drum over the shoe. Is there a difference between the primary and secondary shoes. They look the same to to me. Bout ready to push it in the ditch.

Has someone played around with the length of the brake rods or are the independent brake pedals seized at the inner joint and not allowing the linkage to go to "off" fully. If you need an information sheet on how to set these brakes up email me at : - fergusontractors at tiscali dot co dot uk. and tell me again what the problem is so I dont have to look for this mail again.

Is there a ridge around the inner edge of the drum maybe?

It had a ridge but has been removed. Figured I wasn't out anything so I ground it off. Still no luck. Would seem to me it would just slip back on with no problems. Its a real puzzlement.
Thanks anyway.
