I am having my 51 TE20 rebuilt. The first hurdle we need to jump is that all we can find are cylinder liners, not sleeves. The mechanic says the sleeves are square on the ends while the liners are round. Thanks for your response, Kitty

There are no 1951 TE20's they finished in 1948, if it's definitely 1951 its a TEA with a Standard Motors Engine. To check what engine you have, look for the oil filler it will be on the left side of the engine. If it is at the front it will be a Continental Z120 Engine, if it is towards the rear it is a Standard Motors Engine and could be 80mm bore or 85mm bore. The engine number for both is between the coil and the distributor which would be nice to have to sort it out.Very often the term sleeve is used for a cylinder liner too. No matter which engine you have they are available. You can email me direct at fergusontractors at tiscali dot co dot uk if you prefer

If it is a Standard Motors Company engine, i.e. if you really have a TEA20, you can use sleeves/liners from a Triumph engine of the same era. They are readily available from several sources for about $600 US including pistons and rings.
